camping tents The Fireproof Tent – shortlist, Australian Design Awards Dyson Student Award
Designed as a last resort for people trapped in a burning house or building with no escape route, the Fireproof Tent made the shortlist of the Australian Design Awards Dyson Student Award. The brainchild of Tai Chiem of Monash University, the Fireproof Tent is a deployment safety cover, using heat resistant materials that forms an ‘umbrella’ to insulate those underneath from the burning fires and smoke outside, providing a safety barrier until help arrives. Incorporating a GPS locator, smoke masks and temperature gauge, it’s easy to use and easy to put away – the tent itself is stored inside a canister. Made from a heat resistant fiberglass composite, this tent is able to withstand heat of up 1600 degrees Celsius while deflecting 95% radiant heat. It will sell for $199.
